A God of Second Chances
“There is no God like you. You forgive those who are guilty of sin; you don’t look at the sins of your people who are left alive. You will not stay angry forever, because you enjoy being kind.” – Micah 7:18
There is nothing like God. God is one of a kind. He is quick to forgive and does it over and over again. He even forgets the sinful things we do (Psalm 86:5). He is slow in getting mad and when He gets mad, He only stays mad for a short time (Psalm 103:8). All these traits are different from humans. How easy is it for us to forgive, be patient, or to let go of anger? These things can be a challenge for us. When we realize how merciful God is to us it can change us.
There are many people in the Bible that He showed mercy to. He showed mercy to them by giving them many chances. God has not changed even today. According to Hebrews 13:8, He is the same yesterday and today and forever, therefore, He will show us the same mercy as the people in the Bible.
God was patient with Jonah when he did not want to go to the city of Nineveh to preach against it (Jonah 1:1-4). God showed His kindness to Jonah even when Jonah kept running from Him and gave him another chance to change his mind. Jesus also showed kindness to Peter even when Peter denied knowing Him three times (Luke 22:56-62). Jesus still allowed him to remain His disciple and forgave him. All of Jesus’ disciples abandoned Him except for John, and except for Judas, all remained His disciples until they died (Mark 14:50). This shows God is a God of second chances.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
You are wonderful and everything You do shows it. You forgive, You are patient, You are slow in getting angry, and willing to save us despite our sins. We deserve eternal punishment but because of Your grace, we are saved instead. Jesus died so we can be saved. That is a reason we realize how great You are, and You are a God of second chances. All praise and honor belong to You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
