A Special Work Given to Believers by God
“The LORD spoke His word to me, saying: ‘Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’” - Jeremiah 1:4-5
How does it make you feel that God, the creator of the world, created you and knew you had a special assignment from Him even before you were born (Ephesians 1:4)? In the first chapter of Jeremiah, God told Jeremiah that He chose him to do a special work before he was born. Jeremiah was born to be a prophet for all nations. He was not the only one God chose to do special works for Him.
The apostle Paul was too. His special assignment was to preach Christ among the Gentiles. Before his special work he was putting Christians in jail and having them killed. He realized that he was born for something greater after his conversion on the road to Damascus and that God set him apart for a special work (Galatians 1:15). Paul knew God called him and by God's grace was able to serve God. If he received what he really deserved, then he would have been cast into hell. Paul’s calling gives us a view of God’s purpose in calling us which is to reveal Jesus in us so we may represent Jesus to the world.
No matter what our special work is, it is done to glorify God because what He has done for us. If your life is like Paul's was, then there is hope because God picks people who are ungodly sinners and transforms them into the image of His son Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Thank you for choosing us to be part of Your family. You sit on Your throne in heaven planning our lives even before they start and have a special plan for them. That shows how powerful and full of grace You are. You appoint us with a special work to reveal Jesus to others and what we do is done to glorify You. We also praise You because You are merciful to sinners like us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
