All Believers have a Function in the Body of Christ
“A person’s body is one thing, but it has many parts. Though there are many parts to a body, all those parts make only one body. Christ is like that also. Some of us are Jews, and some are Greeks. Some of us are slaves, and some are free. But we were all baptized into one body through one Spirit. And we were all made to share in the one Spirit.” -1 Corinthians 12:12-13
There is one body of Christ with many members. Each member of the body of Christ is different and is assigned to a specific function to perform so it can operate properly (1 Corinthians 12:4). Like the human body, the body of Christ has many parts, and each part is needed and designed by God for a specific purpose. Therefore, the eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” And the head cannot say to the foot, “I don’t need you.” The same goes for the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27).
The specific functions are gifts given to believers by God after being baptized to bring unity and diversity in the body of Christ. The gifts are used to help build each other up and to bring glory to God (1 Corinthians 12:5-6). God gives certain gifts to each member as He wishes. Because of this, there is no need for jealousy among the body of Christ. Believers can be grateful for the gifts God gave because they are in God’s perfect plan for our lives.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
We all have a part to play as the body of Christ. We can’t say that we don’t need each other. Help us to work together so the body of Christ can function properly. Please help us to keep Jesus in the center of our lives so when other believers are in need, we can be there to help them. This is how You created it to be so we can work together and stay in unity in the body of Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
