Are You Lonely? There is a High Priest Who Cares
“Then all of Jesus’ followers left him and ran away.” -Mark 14:50
Being lonely is difficult to go through. Especially for humans because God created us to be in fellowship with Him and others. That is why being abandoned by friends, family, or co-workers is scary.
Jesus is the only one who can really relate to us when we are lonely. He experienced being abandoned by just about everyone. His disciples left Him when He was being arrested, Peter denied knowing Jesus three times, Judas betrayed Him for money, and even God ignored Him in the Garden of Gethsemane.
During the times of loneliness for Jesus, God had a purpose. He had to experience rejection and loneliness to fulfill the prophecy mentioned in the Scriptures (Zechariah 13:7). God had to ignore Jesus and not answer His prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane, or God’s plan for salvation would not have happened and we would not be able to be saved and go to heaven (Mark 14:32-35). Judas had to betray Jesus or the leading priests would have not arrested Jesus (Mark 14:10-11). Peter denying Jesus helped him to have courage and build his faith (Mark 14:68-72). Peter went on to die for the name of Jesus.
Everything that happens, happens according to God’s plan or purpose. Even if we have to feel the pain of loneliness. Jesus is our hope when we feel alone. We are not alone because Jesus is with us. He went through a lot of rejection and loneliness and is our loving, compassionate, and caring high priest. He understands what we are experiencing and will not abandon us if we put our faith in Him.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
We will all experience loneliness at times. At times when we feel abandoned, it is scary and pray that You will not remain silent for long. If it is in Your plan, then please give us the strength to go through it no matter what happens. We need to know that You are near because we were created to be in fellowship with You and others. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
