Can You Hear Him?
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never die, and no one can steal them out of my hand.” – John 10:27-28
Do you hear Jesus when He is telling you something? If not, that could be a sign you are not one of His sheep. Being His sheep means a person who is chosen by God to be His follower (Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 8:29). We do not know who is chosen or who is not. One sign is if a person hears the Gospel and believes it. It does not mean we won’t have doubts because Satan can put doubts in our minds about the truth of God’s word (Genesis 3:1-7, John 8:44). Believing what the Bible says shows we have the Spirit of the Lord in us (Isaiah 11:2, John 14:26, Luke 24:45).
The most important sign is believing what the Bible says who Jesus is. It is important because many false teachers will come and claim to be a follower of Jesus but deny Him as the Son of God (Acts 20:29-30). These people are false teachers that are not from God. We need to be mindful and aware about these people because they will do anything to trick us and put doubt in our minds about Jesus (1 John 4:2-6).
Jesus’ sheep listen to Him and do what He asks. Obedience is another sign of being one of His sheep. It is difficult at times to do what He asks especially when it comes down to stepping out of our comfort zone, doing something that would jeopardize our image or would cause us pain. It is worth hearing and obeying His voice when He calls despite what might happen. It shows that we really know who He is and realize that we were chosen to receive everlasting life from the Shepherd who loves us.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
You warned us through the help of the Holy Spirit that Jesus’ people hear His voice and obey it. It can be difficult at times. Sometimes, false teachers try to trick us into believing Jesus is not Your Son. Please help us to know the truth because knowing the truth will allow us to hear Jesus’ voice. Hearing is a sign that we are His people and can have life everlasting in heaven with Him. In His holy name we pray, Amen!
