Changing the Truth of God to Fit into Our Lifestyle
“Preach the Good News. Be ready at all times and tell people what they need to do. Tell them when they are wrong. Encourage them with great patience and careful teaching, because the time will come when people will not listen to the true teaching but will find many more teachers who please them by saying the things they want to hear. They will stop listening to the truth and will begin to follow false stories.”- 2 Timothy 4:2-4
It is important to believe everything we learn in the Bible. Everything that is mentioned in the Bible is true and can be trusted (Revelation 22:6). God does not deliberately mislead anyone but wants them to know the truth of what He expects because knowing His truth can set us free from sin and death (John 8:32).
Unfortunately, there are individuals who will stop believing the truth of God and believe what they want by twisting the word of God to fit into their lifestyle. The Bible calls this “itching ears”, meaning their ears itch for doctrines that are pleasing and comfortable just to satisfy their lustful and sinful desires. They will also deliberately find false teachers who will tell them what they want to hear.
There are dangers for individuals who do this. God will leave them and let them continue to do what they want (Romans 1:24-25). When the day of judgement comes before God, they will have no excuse to give for their actions and it will be too late for them to be saved from eternal punishment (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Help us not to have itching ears. We know Your words can be trusted and are true. There is the temptation to turn from Your truth to a lie that the world promises. When we struggle with this temptation, please give us the strength to recognize the truth. We are weak when it comes to sin and that is the reason we must depend on You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
