Christ is Counting on You
“Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News about the kingdom, and healing all kinds of diseases and sicknesses. When he saw the crowds, he felt sorry for them because they were hurting and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus said to his followers, ‘There are many people to harvest but only a few workers to help harvest them. Pray to the Lord, who owns the harvest, that he will send more workers to gather his harvest.’” - Matthew 9:35-38
While Jesus was alive, He went into the world teaching and preaching about the kingdom, namely that He was the King of Israel and if people repented and acknowledge Him as Savior, He would reign over them. As Jesus taught and preached, He also healed people of all kinds of sicknesses. He had a lot of compassion for the multitudes of people who were helpless and saw them as sheep without a shepherd.
As Christians, we are supposed to tell others about Jesus since we were once lost, helpless sheep too. Life is short unless someone confesses Jesus as their savior. He might even return before we die. If that happens, it will be too late for people to be saved and they will be lost forever. Jesus is counting on us to spread the good news about Him to the lost and sick people in the world. Hearing the truth about Jesus can cause someone to believe, repent, and be saved.
Unfortunately, the world has less people to spread the good news of hope. Jesus can use more people to help spread the word about Him. This is important because even in Jesus' time there were “only a few workers;” the need was always greater than the work force. Jesus told the disciples to pray to God to send more laborers into His harvest. Jesus told them this because workers should not go and evangelize until they are sent. We can do the same and pray for God to call more people into the world to spread the good news of Jesus.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
You gave us the commandment to go into the world and tell others about Your Son. It is important because the world is full of lost, sick people that are in need of a Shepherd. Please give us the ability to do it if we are led by the Holy Spirit because we want to be a voice of hope for a lost world. You need more people, too, because laborers for You are few. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
