Daily Repentance is Required
“If you hide your sins, you will not succeed. If you confess and reject them, you will receive mercy.” – Proverbs 28:13
God’s mercies never stop and are new every morning. This promise is found in Lamentations 3:22-23. God is patient enough to show us His mercy every day. He promises to forgive us for sinning if we humbly confess our sins, be truly sorry for what we have done and accept Jesus as our savior. When we do, God is quick to forgive and forget what we did. He makes it so simple for us to receive His mercy and grace when we sin.
We need God's mercy and forgiveness on a daily basis because we all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard (Romans 3:23). If we say we have not sinned, we make God a liar (John 1:10). Sin is a daily struggle. Paul is one person who we can relate with in our daily struggle with sin. He describes his struggle with sin and his lack of ability to do anything good (Romans 7:15, 19, 24). Paul also refers to being a captive and enslaved to sin (Romans 7:14, 23) and says that although he wants to do what is right, he ends up doing what is wrong (Romans 7:19).
Lucky for us, Jesus’ death won the victory over sin and the power it had over our lives (1 Corinthians 15:56-57). Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross. Now when we sin, we are forgiven and made right with God. Being made right with God means we become His friends (Romans 5:9-10). We owe this all to God since Jesus’ death and redemptive work is a free gift from Him and available to all who believe (Romans 3:22, 24-25).
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
We need to repent of our sins. We sin on a regular basis and pray that You will forgive us since Your mercies are new every morning. When You do, it shows that You are quick to forget our sins. If we are truly sorry for what we have done. Please help us to forgive others like You forgive us when someone hurts us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
