Easter, A Time to Remember and Celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection
“On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you, while He was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’” Then they remembered His words.” - Luke 24:1-8
Easter is just around the corner. What a great reminder of the day when Jesus was resurrected from the dead. It was about 2000 years ago when some women witnessed the empty tomb of Jesus. It happened just as Jesus had foretold them in Luke 9:22. The empty tomb is the result of His resurrection. His resurrection means a lot for believers. Jesus won the victory over sin, Satan, and death (Genesis 3:15, Colossians 2:15, 2 Timothy 1:10). We do not have to fear death or let sin control us (Romans 6:10-11). Because of Jesus, Satan lost the battle and control over believers.
Jesus’ resurrection also means we are declared righteous before God. Jesus was raised from the dead for our justification (Romans 4:25). His death and resurrection make us right with God. We can be raised from the dead too because Jesus was. He is the reason why we are a new creation and why God chooses to forgive and forget our sins (2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 John 1:7).
What a great reason to celebrate Easter. It has nothing to do with candy, egg hunts, or a bunny. It is all about Jesus, and His unselfish act of willingly laying His life down for the sins of all people who believe (1John 3:16).
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
We have a reason to celebrate Easter. With Easter around the corner, we want to remember what Jesus did for all who believe. Easter is not just about decorating eggs, getting candy, or family get togethers. It is a time to gather to celebrate our savior’s resurrection. We are lucky and blessed that we can celebrate what He has done for us. We are a new creation in Christ. Thank you, God for all You have done. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
