How Great is Our God
“Oh, Lord God, you made the skies and the earth with your very great power. There is nothing too hard for you to do.” – Jeremiah 32:17
It is hard to comprehend how great God is. Even though it can be tough to comprehend His greatness, the Bible describes characteristics of His greatness. Jeremiah 32:17 says that there is nothing God cannot do. Since He has this kind of power, we can trust Him to be the source of our strength. I believe it is true since I have experienced God’s greatness and power in my own life. I have seen Him heal my loved one’s addiction. I have also witnessed Him heal many different kinds of broken relationships.
God’s great power can also be seen in Scripture in Genesis 2:21-22 when God created the first woman from Adam's rib. With His power He caused Adam to fall asleep. While he was sleeping, God took one of his ribs and made the woman from it. God’s greatness extends into the New Testament as well. In Luke 1:34-38 Mary, a virgin, became pregnant with power that came from God and the Holy Spirit. The angel who was talking to Mary said this would happen and it was all possible because of God since He can do anything (Luke 1:37).
God’s greatness is shown in the birth of Jesus. The birth of Jesus was God’s plan to save humanity from the consequences of their sins which leads to their separation from God. Through Jesus Christ, God demonstrated His great love and mercy by providing us a way to be reconciled to Him. Ephesians 2:8 shows God's greatness and grace very well: “I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God.” This free gift is given to anyone who believes in what Jesus’ did. Wow, how great is our God!
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
You are great. We read about Your greatness in the Bible but also witness it in our daily lives. You save people even when they continue to sin. We know about the miracles You have done which show people Your greatness. We will witness Your greatness in our broken relationships. Please help us continue to see Your greatness and by it we will give You praise. This will show people in the world of Your greatness, and they will also want to praise You because You are a great God. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
