How Much Do We Really Trust God

How Much Do We Really Trust God
“Trust the LORD with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the LORD in all you do, and he will give you success.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Have you ever asked yourself: “How much do I really trust God?” If you struggled to answer the question, then you are not alone. It seems like everyone has struggled to trust God one time or another. For me, I have struggled to trust God with my family members. It is hard to see God at work in their lives when they are doing things that are against what the Bible teaches. By no means do I view myself as being perfect though since I still struggle to obey God’s word that I was taught.

There are a lot of our life experiences that interfere with our ability to truly trust God. When I was a toddler, I trusted people more than I do now. I trusted people more when I was younger because I was never hurt by people at that age. As I grew up, I developed more trust issues because more people I trusted had hurt me. The hurt people caused me impacted my view about God. I, like many who have been hurt by people, believed God is the same as people and that since God allowed me to get hurt, then He cannot be trusted either.

People have always had a trust issue with God. The first humans, Adam and Eve, did not even trust God in Genesis 2:15-17 when He warned them what would happen to them if they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He told them they would certainly die. Unfortunately, they did not trust Him and ate from the tree. Even in the present age, people still have a trust issue with God. It does not mean that God is the source of a person's trust issue. It is caused by our inability to listen and trust God. On a more encouraging outlook, God can be trusted, He is very trustworthy, and we can trust Him even when our sinful minds and hearts cannot or struggle to do it.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

It can be hard to trust You. It has been a struggle to trust You since humans were created. Please help us to trust You when we have doubts or when we just want to do our own thing. Give us a way to believe that trusting You is better for us then trusting ourselves since we have a sinful heart and mind. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
