Is Sin Really Worth It?
- “Anyone who knows the right thing to do, but does not do it, is sinning.” - James 4:17
Throughout Scripture there are many examples of people who have sinned. By their examples we can learn how sin can also impact us. In the case of Adam and Eve, their sin caused them to be separated from God (Genesis 3:22-24). God did not allow their sin to go without consequences. It is because of their sin that there is death and why we all have to die (Romans 5:12-13). Sin continued in the Bible with Adam and Eve’s son, Cain, when he committed the first murder of his own brother Abel out of jealousy (Genesis 4:3-8).
The people in the world continued to sin and do evil. This deeply troubled God and He regretted making human beings on the earth (Genesis 6:6). As a result, He decided to destroy the people with a great flood only saving Noah and his family (Genesis 6:11-13). After the flood and as humans started to fill the earth again, sin continued. God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah due to the men’s sexual sins (Genesis 19:4-9, Genesis 19:29).
When we sin nothing good comes from it. It is only God that can turn our sins into something good (Genesis 50:20). God use our sins that are evil to bring Him glory. He did it by redemption through Jesus’ death on the cross (Romans 6:23). It was God’s plan to save humanity from eternal punishment that we deserve. Our sins are forgotten and paid for by God when we accept Jesus as our Savior. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, so is sin really worth it?
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Sin is never a good thing. It causes pain and destruction and even death. Therefore, sin is not worth anything. You can use our sins for good like You did with Your plan to save us from death that we deserve. You show us Your kindness and mercy by forgiving us when we sin. We are forgiven because of Jesus’ death. In His name we pray, Amen!
