Is there Really a Battle Against Good and Evil?
“Our fight is not against people on earth but against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness, against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly world.” - Ephesians 6:12
There is a spiritual battle going on in the world that we cannot see. The Bible mentions the spiritual battles are really between God (the Good One) and Satan (the evil one). The first battle started in heaven and continues now on earth.
In Revelation 12:7-12, there was a big battle in heaven with God’s highest angel Michael and all the other angels against Satan and his fallen angels. Satan tried to take over God’s throne but was not strong enough. They were overpowered, cast out of heaven to earth (Revelation 12:7-12).
After Satan and all the fallen angels were cast out of heaven, all in heaven rejoiced and said,
“But it will be terrible for the earth and the sea,
because the devil has come down to you!
He is filled with anger,
because he knows he does not have much time.” (Revelation 12:12)
The spiritual battle is still going on. Satan is roaming the earth and is angry. His goal is to attack God’s people. He knows he does not have much time on earth. His goal is to trick people and turn them away from God. Jesus will be back for His people who are still alive. When He does, Satan’s time will be up, he will be thrown into hell for his punishment (Revelation 20:10).
It is important for people of God to be careful because the devil, our enemy, goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to eat (1 Peter 5:8). Satan even tried to influence Jesus to do evil in Matthew 4:4. Jesus did not let Satan trick Him. He won the fight against temptation in the wilderness from by not sinning. He used the word of God to help Him recognize Satan’s lies.
The good news is that Jesus already won the overall war against Satan by dying on the cross (Genesis 3:15). We do not have to be scared or worried when Satan tries to attack us. We can turn to Jesus for strength during the spiritual battles we will face.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Please protect us from our enemy, Satan. He is mean and is ready to hurt us. Help us to be aware of his tricks. You are stronger than him and have the power to protect us from his evil plans. Have mercy on us when we fall and lose our fight against Satan and his evil schemes. Give us the strength to get back up, so we can fight another good fight against Satan. Thank you for Jesus, who won the battle against Satan and saved us from eternal punishment. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
