Is Your Conscience Bothering You?
“They show that in their hearts they know what is right and wrong, just as the law commands. And they show this by their consciences. Sometimes their thoughts tell them they did wrong, and sometimes their thoughts tell them they did right.”- Romans 2:15
Why is it when someone hurts or does something mean to us that we want justice and want them to be punished for it? Maybe it is our conscience that tells us what they did was wrong. We all know what is right and what is wrong because God provides us with a conscience to help us distinguish between the two. It helps to convict our hearts and minds to care what we do, how we should act, and treat others (Romans 9:1).
It is important because what we do while we are alive will be judged by God. On judgment day, everyone will have to stand before God and give an account for what they have done (Matthew 12:36) We will have no excuse for what we have done because He provides us with a conscience that tells us what we should do and not do. The things God says are evil will be punished and the good things will be rewarded (2 Corinthians 5:10).
When we listen to our conscience and what God is telling us, it has the power to free us from shame and guilt that can enslave us. If we live with a conscience that listens to God and do what is good and right, it helps to reduce the power sin and Satan have in our lives. Therefore, we can stand boldly before God on judgement day, knowing we will not be judged guilty for ignoring God, but obeying.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
With the power from the Holy Spirit, our conscience tells us what we do is right or wrong. Sometimes, it bothers us so much that we change our way of thinking and our actions to those that are holy and honorable to You. Without our conscience we cannot be convicted of our sins. It is important because on judgement day, we will have no excuse for the things we did while we were alive. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
