Jesus, More Than a Role Model
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.” -John 14:6
Today, many think that Jesus was just a role model. But according to Jesus, He did not merely show the way but is the way to heaven. The Scriptures make it very clear who Jesus was and why He came to earth. If anyone tries to say differently, then they are not a true prophet from God, and we should not believe them.
The Bible shows that Jesus was more than a role model. God made Him a judge who has the power to save us. One day Jesus will be back to judge the living and the dead (Revelation 1:7, 2 Timothy 4:1). On that day “we must all stand before Christ to be judged. Each of us will receive what we should get—good or bad—for the things we did in the earthly body (2 Corinthians 5:10).”
He will have the power to separate one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on His left. He will tell those on His left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed”, and they will be thrown into the eternal fire that is prepared for the devil and His angels. And all the others will receive eternal life (Matthew 25:32-46).
Jesus was more than a role model because God sent Him to earth to defeat the work of Satan and to save humans from sin and death. Satan's work and sin started in the Garden of Eden when Satan tricked Adam and Eve into eating a piece of fruit God told them not to. As a result, God told Satan that He is sending a descendant of David to defeat him (Genesis 3:15). Jesus defeated Satan when He suffered on the cross, rose from the dead, and won victory over hell. He should be thought of more than “just” a role model.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Your Son is our only way for us to be with You. That is why we believe what Jesus did and that He is more than a role model. He died so we can be saved and defeat the evil one’s work. One day Jesus will be back to judge all people so please help us to be ready. We do not know when that day will be. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
