Keeping the Marriage Covenant Holy

Keeping the Marriage Covenant Holy
“Marriage should be honored by everyone, and husband and wife should keep their marriage pure. God will judge as guilty those who take part in sexual sins.” – Hebrews 13:4

God created marriage in Genesis 2:24 when He declared it by saying “a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one body.” When people try to change the marriage covenant by redesigning it to conform to the world’s standards instead of God’s, it is not a holy institution anymore (Romans 12:2). It will not be honored by God meaning He will not approve of it or bless the marriage.

Some believe God will honor any marriage because it is love between two committed individuals. This is not true according to scripture. Do not let anyone fool you to believe God is okay with marriage that is outside with what the scripture says. He does not approve of marriage unless it is between a man and a woman because He designed marriage that way.

Jesus also clearly describes how God created marriage to be like in Mark 10:6–9:

“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

God does take the marriage covenant seriously. Do not be fooled by the world’s desire to change the design of marriage to fit into their own sinful lifestyles. But we need to stand firm with God’s design because if we do not, we will be judged guilty and pay the consequences for not keeping the marriage covenant holy. The consequences are clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 6:10 which says these people will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Please help us to keep the marriage covenant holy. To do this, we need to stand firm on the truth that is stated in scripture. The scripture is Your word that is true and can be trusted about what it says about marriage. Give us the courage to stand firm when the world is against us on the topic of marriage. Our hearts want to serve You instead of the world. We want to be part of Your kingdom instead because it is better than the world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
