Playing the Blame Game

Playing the Blame Game
“The man said, ‘You gave this woman to me, and she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it.’ Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘How could you have done such a thing?’ She answered, ‘The snake tricked me, so I ate the fruit.’” – Genesis 3:12-13

In Genesis 3:12-13, there was a lot of blaming going on from one person to another. The man, Adam blamed Eve for his own actions. He ate fruit from the tree that God told him not to and did it because the woman gave it to him (Genesis 3:6). However, Eve also ate some of the same fruit that God commanded both of them not to eat (Genesis 3:1-6). Unfortunately, Eve played the same blame game and blamed the snake for eating the forbidden fruit.

The man and woman never took full responsibility for their own actions and blamed another for what they did. A person can learn from Adam and Eve’s actions. If we blame others for our actions, then we are not taking full responsibility for them. There are consequences if we do not. God will not forgive us. On the other hand, if we are honest and confess what we did then He promises to forgive us for our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). If someone does something to hurt another, then they are supposed to confess what they did to them.

Through our confession and taking full responsibility for what we have done and not blaming others, God will forgive us and can begin the healing process of the broken relationships that our sin and disobedience caused.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father

Please help us not to blame others for what we do since it is easy to do. It started in the garden with Adam and Eve. Please help us to take full responsibility for what we do. When we do, You will forgive us and can begin healing in our broken relationships. Let us praise You for all of Your grace and goodness. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen!
