Replacing a Lie for the Truth
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”- John 8:32
The negative things people say about us are easier to believe than the nice ones. The negative comments they say about us like we are not good enough, or the rude comments they make about our clothes, hair, or weight are very hurtful. It hurts so much that we start changing to be like everyone else just to be accepted and to fit in. God does not want us to do that because when we do, we are conforming to the world (Romans 12:2). When it happens, it is helpful to turn to the truth of God and how He views us and not people.
When we start believing the truth of God and how He views us, it sets us free from the lies that can bind and control us. It is so easy to believe the lies of the devil over God’s truth because Satan is very clever and is a liar, a deceiver and has been doing it from the beginning (John 8:44). We should not underestimate his power to trick us into thinking things that are not true. He deceived Adam and Eve by convincing them God was keeping something good from them (Genesis 3:1-7). He is mean and evil and will do anything to keep us as slaves to lies that can enslave and control us.
When we are able to learn the word of God, it helps us to recognize the real truth and what God thinks really matters. He views people differently than the world does. He sees the heart of a person and not their appearance (1 Samuel 16:7). When someone is poor, the Bible views it as a blessing (Luke 6:20). There will be other lies the world tells us and wants us to believe, but when that happens, we can replace them with the truth of how God wants us to think, act, and be like. Then we will be truly free from the lies that can enslave us.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
You are a God of truth. You are not a liar like Satan. Satan tries to trick us by lying to us about how we are not worthy to be loved, we are not beautiful, and no one will like us. It is easy to believe the lies that people say about us, but with Your help we can recognize them and be set free by the truth that matters. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
