Solitude, Special Time Spent with God
“Early the next morning, while it was still dark, Jesus woke and left the house. He went to a lonely place, where He prayed.”- Mark 1:35
Being alone and spending time with God is normal and is part of being a Christian. Jesus, God’s Son, prayed a lot in solitude. In Mark 1:35, Jesus woke up early to go out alone to pray. He did it to be free from distractions and to receive instructions from God for the day. We can learn from Him, if He felt the need to spend time with God alone, then why don’t we?
Taking time to spend with God takes sacrifice and should not be done out of convenience or selfishness. Jesus spent time in isolation out of care for His friend John the Baptist after hearing the news about his death in Matthew 14:13. Time spent with God is also a way for us to stay in a relationship with Him, no matter if it is just by talking to Him or reading His word.
Jesus stayed in constant solitude with the Father; here are some more Bible verses that mentions Him spending alone time with God:
“Immediately Jesus told His followers to get into the boat and go ahead of Him across the lake. He stayed there to send the people home. After He had sent them away, He went by Himself up into the hills to pray. It was late, and Jesus was there alone.”- Matthew 14:22-23
“But the news about Jesus spread even more. Many people came to hear Jesus and to be healed of their sicknesses, but Jesus often slipped away to be alone so He could pray.”- Luke 5:15-16
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
We need to spend time alone with You. During the times of solitude, we can hear You better because nothing gets in our way of hearing You. Alone time with You can help us in our struggles in life. Thank you for allowing us to spend time with You. It is very important as Your children because it shows that we depend on You and not on ourselves. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
