The Beauty of Heaven
It is hard to imagine what heaven will be like (1 Corinthians 2:9). The Bible gives us a glimpse of it through the apostle John who saw some of heaven. As he talked to an angel, he describes the beauty of heaven in Revelation 21:18-21 this way:
“The wall was made of jasper, and the city was made of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundation stones of the city walls were decorated with every kind of jewel. The first foundation was jasper, the second was sapphire, the third was chalcedony, the fourth was emerald, the fifth was onyx, the sixth was carnelian, the seventh was chrysolite, the eighth was beryl, the ninth was topaz, the tenth was chrysoprase, the eleventh was jacinth, and the twelfth was amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls; each gate having been made from a single pearl. And the street of the city was made of pure gold as clear as glass.”
In this beautiful place, God sits on His throne, and will be there to wipe away every tear from our eyes. In heaven, there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain because all the old ways are gone (Revelation 21:3-4). Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven where there will be enough rooms for all His people (John 14:2). We can trust Jesus that heaven is real because of His promise of it in John 14:2, “I would not tell you this if it were not true.”
The apostle Paul, who met Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3-5), understood the importance of heaven when he claimed with courage that “we really want to be away from this body and be at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). Paul longed for the day to be in his glorified body and be in the presence of his Lord, Jesus. That is the real beauty of heaven, a place we can be with our Lord as well, worshipping Him forever and ever, Amen!
A prayer for today:
Dear heavenly Father,
You are kind to prepare a place for us in heaven. It will be a very beautiful place. We are very thankful for heaven because there will be no more pain, sadness or crying. Your glory will shine bright as the sun, and everyone will sing Your praises because You are merciful and full of grace. Thank you for Jesus and that He is preparing a place for us in heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
