The Blessings of Waiting on the Lord

“But the people who trust the LORD will become strong again. They will rise up as an eagle in the sky; they will run and not need rest; they will walk and not become tired.” – Isaiah 40:31

Waiting is difficult. It is difficult especially when we really want something right now. As Christians, waiting involves trusting God in every situation in life. However, due to our fallen and sinful nature, waiting and trusting God is a struggle (Ecclesiastes 3:11). People think they know what is better for them than God. As a result, we make quick decisions instead of praying and waiting on God for help. Our immediate decisions can have a negative impact in our life and in the life of others.

When we wait on the Lord, Isaiah 40:31 says He will make us strong by giving us renewed strength. We will get our strength from Him like an eagle does. Different kinds of eagles can fly at different speeds and heights. God gives the bald eagle the ability to reach speeds up to 100 mph and by using thermal air currents, they can reach up to 10,000 feet or more into the air[1]. We can reach our highest potential too with God and can do more if we are willing to wait on Him for His perfect timing.

Here are some other Bible passages to turn to when we struggle to be patient and wait on the Lord. We can see the blessings that we will receive when we do.

“Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

“The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to those who seek him. It is good to wait quietly for the Lord to save.” – Lamentations 3:25-26

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Please give us patience to wait on You. We struggle to wait sometimes because we want things now. We see the blessings from Scripture that we are given when we are patient and wait on You. You promise to give us strength to be successful. Help us to quietly wait on You in every situation since life can be hard, but with You all things are possible. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
