The Wonderful Gift of Having Children
“Children are a gift from the Lord; babies are a reward.” – Psalm 127:3
Having children is a gift from God. It was God’s plan from the beginning for couples to have children. He gave married couples the command in Genesis 1:28 to “have many children and grow in number.” God also put parents in charge of their children along with all other living things (Genesis 1: 28). As a gift given to parents from God, children are supposed to be cared for, taught, and trained in the rules and laws of God that are mentioned in the Bible.
When parents listen to God and teach their children to obey His commands, it can benefit them (3 John 1:4). Proverbs 22:6 tells parents to “train children to live the right way, and when they are old, they will not stray from it.” This verse is an encouragement to parents of the advantage of teaching their kids, but it does not promise that their children will be sinless or will not turn away from what they were taught.
Jesus recognized the importance of children. Children like adults can be saved and should not be held back because of their age. Jesus allowed children to come to Him in Matthew 19:14 when His disciples tried to stop them. Jesus told His disciples to not hinder them because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people who are like those children. Parents are blessed to have children because they can teach them what it takes to have childlike faith and humility in order for them to inherit the kingdom of heaven as well.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Thank you for the gift of children. You created them in your likeness. We pray for the children in the world to keep and follow Your rules so they won’t stray from them. Help parents to teach their kids to live rightly. This will help them have peace and receive eternal life in heaven with You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
