True Treasures are in Heaven
“Don’t store treasures for yourselves here on earth where moths and rust will destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. But store your treasures in heaven where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will be where your treasure is.”-Matthew 6:19-21
The things we have on earth are temporary. The things we have like cars, jewelry, money, and even air conditioning can easily be taken from us in a blink of an eye. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:19-21 there is no security in material things. Any type of material thing that we consider as a treasure can either be destroyed by the elements of nature like a moth or rust or can be taken by thieves. Jesus said the only thing that is not subject to being lost is our treasure in heaven.
Earthly possessions cannot satisfy our need for God. He created us to desire Him only. Therefore, in heaven there will be nothing from earth and God will provide everything we need. He will be a light for us. He will fill our mouths with words of praise, enabling us to worship Him forever and ever. He will also take away our pain and suffering and will wipe away our tears (Revelation 21:4-7).
If we choose earthly possessions over God, then it shows what our hearts really desire. What does your heart really desire? Is it God? Can our hearts worship God if we worship other things? God is better than anything we can have in this lifetime because once we are saved nothing can separate us from His love that endures forever and ever (Psalm 136:1, Romans 8:38-39).
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Heaven is the only place to find true treasures. Earthly possessions cannot satisfy us because they can be taken away from us so quickly. You want us to focus our desires on heaven, where there is only You to worship. Thank you for letting us have the chance to go to heaven and be with You. You are awesome! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
