What Does it Take to be a Servant of God?
“In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many people.”- Matthew 20:28
Being a servant of God is not easy because it involves a lot of time, self-sacrifice, humility and love. We can do it by following the example God gave us in Jesus. God did not send Jesus into the world to be serve but to serve others. He devoted His life to the service of God and to do His will. Jesus was a humble servant who showed His love by suffering a humiliating death on the cross and by washing His disciples’ feet (John 13:5-12).
When we become a servant of God, it involves doing things that God wants us to do while stepping out of our comfort zone to accomplish His will and not our own, like Jesus did by washing His disciples’ feet. Jesus actions showed His love for His disciples, even if it made Him feel uncomfortable or uneasy. This is especially true because Jesus knew Judas was going to betray Him and He still washed Judas’ feet (John 13:11).
Being a servant of God also involves being humble because we have to be willing to submit to God’s will even if we struggle to. Jesus submitted to God’s plans for His death after pleading with God to take the pain away that He was about to endure (Luke 22:41-44). God did not take the pain away but gave Him strength from an angel to get through it (Luke 22:43).
Being a servant of God is worth it because everything we do brings glory to God.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
It is worth serving You. Everything we do brings You glory. Please put the desire in our hearts to become a servant for You because it can be a struggle to submit to Your will. It is also hard to find time to serve You because life gets so busy. Thank you for Jesus and His example for us to follow. Help us to be like Him. In His precious name we pray, Amen!
