What We Can Learn from God’s Creation

“Go watch the ants, you lazy person. Watch what they do and be wise. Ants have no commander, no leader or ruler, but they store up food in the summer and gather their supplies at harvest.” – Proverbs 6:6-8

Ants are always working. Every time we see them, they are working hard doing something. What can we learn from them? Proverbs 6:6-8 says that we can learn from them how not to be lazy. If they do not work hard collecting food, they will starve and die. The same goes for us, if we do not work, we will not have money for food or other necessities to survive. God does not want humans to be lazy, and if possible, wants us to work hard if we can just like the ants.

We can also learn something from the birds. They can teach us how not to worry. They do not worry where their next meal is coming from. Matthew 6:26 says they do not worry about food because their heavenly Father feeds them. They do not even have to plant, harvest or store food in barns. The same goes for us since we know that we are more important to God than the birds.

Furthermore, why should we worry about what we wear? We can look at the lilies and the grass in the field and see that God clothes them with leaves and buds (Matthew 6:28-30). If He clothes them, we can be sure that He will do the same for us. So, why do we worry about anything since God is in control and promises to provide for us, especially when our Father knows the things we need before we ask Him (Matthew 6:8)?

A prayer for today:

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank you for showing us how Your creation does things. It opens our minds to see that even the creatures You created trust and obey You. They trust You more than we do at times. Help us to trust You and apply Your rules for Your creation to our daily lives. Also, thank you for showing us how Your creation listens to You and trusts You to provide for them. Help us to do the same. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
