Who is the Ruler of Your Life?

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All power in heaven and on earth is given to me.’” – Matthew 28:18
Jesus was given the power to rule over everything on earth and in heaven (John 17:2). He was given the authority to do anything He wanted. As His followers, we are supposed to let Him rule our lives in this world and in the next. God gave Him the authority to rule because He was obedient to God. As a result, He won the victory over sin, death, and the devil, and is the fulfillment of God's plan for the restoration of all things.
It is a good thing that Jesus is the supreme ruler of everything and also should be in a Christian’s life. He does not expect us to be perfect since we cannot be in this life, but with help from the Holy Spirit, followers of Jesus should show signs that they are changing to act like Him. Some character traits we should show are mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23. The nine traits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The traits are shown in a person's life when they are led by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus and God are the only things on earth and in the next life that can make a Christian feel truly fulfilled and happy. This satisfaction comes from knowing that Jesus is Lord and King over our lives. If we make other things lord in our life, then we are making them idols and it is a sin. However, there are great advantages to making Jesus the main ruler and Lord of our life. Some include salvation, the ability to live for Christ, to do good for God's glory and not being a slave to sin anymore (Romans 10:9, Matthew 4:19, Ephesians 4:25).
Allowing Jesus to rule in our lives has great results that can never be taken from us unlike the things of this world.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Please let You be the ruler of our lives. We cannot rule our life like You. We need Your power to be like Christ especially in this world that is full of sinful things. The things of this world cannot satisfy us like You do. Please help us to stay focused on the things from above since they are what we will receive after we die. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
