Why Should We Not Judge Others?
“Don’t judge others, or you will be judged. You will be judged in the same way that you judge others, and the amount you give to others will be given to you.
“Why do you notice the little piece of dust in your friend’s eye, but you don’t notice the big piece of wood in your own eye? How can you say to your friend, ‘Let me take that little piece of dust out of your eye’? Look at yourself! You still have that big piece of wood in your own eye. You hypocrite! First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your friend’s eye.” Matthew 7:1-5
Even Christians have the tendency to judge others. We have the tendency to judge other’s appearance, motives, hearts, or actions. If we criticize others with an unrighteousness judgment, Jesus warns us that God will judge us the same way. The truth is, when it comes to judging others, we have no right to because we do the same things they do.
We need to take a good look at ourselves first before judging others. It is not easy to do because we are sinners and deep in our hearts we want ourselves to look and act better than others. But sometimes we even tend to judge others without realizing it.
We need to tell others when they are sinning what they are doing is wrong but in a loving non-judgmental way. This is done by praying and asking the Holy Spirit to help to discern if we are really judging someone, or if we are just trying to help in real Christian love just like Jesus did when He was alive.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
We have the tendency to judge people in our life. It is wrong but pray that You will help us to change when we do. Why do we see the little piece of dust in our friend’s eye and not the big piece of wood in our own? The answer is clear that we are sinners in need of Your help to show us. Help us not to judge others but to love them the same way You do. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
